01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
& Ovo (And Ovo), just across from Tsukiji Hongwanji, is a brasserie and café with a bright street-facing setting and an airy feel. Upstairs, large windows look out over the streets and temple grounds, while terrace seating offers a chance to feel the breeze.
For breakfast, the morning plate comes with soup and a drink, and lets you choose your eggs fried, boiled or scrambled. The egg sandwich, toasted golden and crisp on both sides, is another tempting option. There is also French toast soaked in egg batter, and a filling rice bowl topped with egg, sausage and browned cheese, giving you a choice of breakfast to suit the mood of the day.
At lunchtime, the options include a daily Ovo plate, fritters and a spice-scented bistro curry. On weekends, a prix fixe brunch lets you put together a meal from a starter and a main. For a slower café break, there are seasonal tarts and Basque cheesecake to enjoy with a cup of blended coffee.
In the evening, small plates such as a charcuterie selection of mortadella, cured ham and rillettes, and cod brandade, make good company for a glass of wine. There are substantial mains, too, including grilled Wagyu beef and the day’s fresh fish wrapped in pastry. They suit a relaxed meal with close friends as well as dinner for a special occasion.
